At least 43 clinics across the United States no longer offer abortions after the Supreme Court overturned a law that allowed the procedure.
These data were published by the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that supports access to abortions.
With the Supreme Court’s ruling, abortion is no longer automatically illegal in the US — but states can decide whether to allow it.
Since the Court’s decision – taken on June 24 – 11 states have banned abortions after six weeks of pregnancy or the entire procedure.
As a result 43 clinics – including 23 in Texas, five in Oklahoma and five in Alabama – no longer offer this service.
“The already dire state of access to abortion will continue to worsen as more states pass abortion bans in the coming weeks or months,” the study’s authors said.
Some states, such as Louisiana and North Dakota, have laws banning abortions.
About half of the American states, especially in the south, are expected to completely ban this procedure.
