Lyudmila Makey, the first journalist from Ukraine who has taken refuge in Kosovo, in a press conference held today, said that as soon as she got off the plane she felt the sincerity and hospitality of the people here.

Makey emphasized that he was impressed by how “the pain of my country is felt in the hearts of the people of Kosovo, it beats to tears”.

“Because they know how difficult it is to heal the wound left by a terrible war. “I am grateful to the Government of Kosovo for its support to the people of Ukraine in a difficult time,” she said.

She also thanked the journalists in Kosovo for their solidarity with the war in Ukraine, saying that “it is very important for the world to hear about Ukraine”.

Among other things, she said that she is honored to represent the Union of Journalists of Ukraine, which has over 16 thousand members.

“The work of journalists in Ukraine has become very dangerous. “Russians are killing everyone, regardless of age, gender, race or profession.”

She has announced that since the beginning of the war, more than 21 journalists have died from Russian forces, and not just Ukrainians.

“More than 25 of my colleagues are missing, their fate is unknown. Journalists are also threatened and blackmailed by their relatives. It does not have to be this way, it’s good that you all understand that too. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to become the first Ukrainian journalist to come to Kosovo. For me, this is a good opportunity to stay in the profession and get to know fellow journalists in Kosovo “, said among others Makey.

Asked if she had heard or written before about Kosovo, the journalist from Ukraine said that “yes, I heard and read about Kosovo, but I did not have the opportunity to write because I did not have colleagues from Kosovo to get information.”
