The United States of America said that together with the international factor, they ask the Government of Kosovo to postpone the deadline for the re-registration of cars that have license plates issued by Serbia and to convert them to RKS – Republic of Kosovo license plates.
“The United States is disappointed and concerned that the Government of Kosovo has rejected requests from international partners to do so,” the US State Department said in a statement.
The USA had previously announced that it is its request and that of the European Union that Kosovo postpone the deadline for re-registration for ten months.
This US reaction came a few minutes after the Government of Kosovo unveiled a plan to implement the license plate decision, which is expected to last until April 21. However, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that this decision is not a postponement of the license plate deadline.
“For three weeks, starting from November 1 to November 21, the measure will be reprimand. Then, from November 21, for two months until January 21, there will be a fine measure, and then from January 21 we will have trial plates for another two months, after which date, on April 21, there can be no, because no other license plates can be allowed in the Republic of Kosovo”, declared the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti during the Government meeting.
