Lista Serbe – the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo – decided on Saturday to leave the central institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the municipalities in the north of the country.
“We have decided to leave all political institutions, the Assembly, the Government, and the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, but also to leave the Serbs from the judiciary, the police and the administrative staff in the four municipalities in the north”, said the president of Serbian list, Goran Rakić after the meeting.
After the decision – taken in a closed-door meeting in Zveçan – the Serbian members of the Kosovo Police, those of the judiciary and the prosecution in the north also resigned.
The warnings of the Serbian List to leave the institutions of Kosovo have come after the decision of the Kosovo authorities to suspend the director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Nenad Gjuriq, who has refused to implement the decision of the Government of Kosovo on the re-registration of cars. that have license plates issued by Serbia in RKS – Republic of Kosovo.
Serbian license plates are considered illegal by the authorities in Kosovo, but until now they have been tolerated in the north of Kosovo.
Rakic said on Saturday that the decisions to leave the institutions will be implemented until the moment when “Prishtina begins to respect public international law and the agreements reached in Brussels”.
“This means, concretely, until they withdraw the unilateral and illegal decisions for re-registration, until they form the Association of Serbian Municipalities, in accordance with the first agreement and all other agreements related to this matter in dialogue”.
Rakic himself has stated that he has resigned from “the position of minister in the Government of Kosovo”.
He has held the position of Minister for Communities and Returns.
Even the deputy in the Assembly of Kosovo, Igor Simic, has said that he submits his resignation on behalf of 10 deputies in this institution.
On behalf of the employees in the judicial system, Nikolla Kabashiq, president of the Basic Court for the region of Mitrovica, resigned.
The Government of Kosovo has not reacted regarding the decision of the Serbian representatives.
The chief of staff of the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has said that by forcing the Kosovo Serbs to leave the institutions of Kosovo, “Serbia is unilaterally violating all Brussels agreements for the dissolution of its structures illegal in Kosovo”.
“Such intimidation will not work. The institutions of Kosovo will remain multi-ethnic and representative of all communities”, he said through a post on Twitter.
