In the meeting held on Monday with the European Union Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, Prime Minister Albin Kurti stressed that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to a principled dialogue, which should benefit the citizens of both countries.

As it is announced in a press release, the meeting discussed the progress of the meetings so far, the constructive approach throughout the dialogue process in Brussels, the principles, values ​​and purpose of this process.

Kurti and EU Special Representative Lajcak also reportedly discussed the agreement on the implementation of the energy roadmap under the 2013 and 2015 agreements. inherited, supply and payment of energy in the four municipalities in the north of the country.

“Thanks to this agreement, after more than 20 years, the four municipalities in northern Kosovo, Leposavic, Zubin Potok, Zvecan and North Mitrovica, will move to a regular order of energy billing. With this agreement, the budget of the Republic of Kosovo will be saved with tens of millions of euros per year, paid earlier to cover the energy costs of the north of the country”, it is said in the announcement.

Envoy Lajcak’s visit to Kosovo follows the signing of an agreement in Brussels on June 21st between Kosovo and Serbia on the licensing of a Serbian electricity supply company for the four northern municipalities with electricity.

From the post-war period of 1999 to 2017, the electricity debt for households living in Serb-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo was paid by Kosovo citizens from municipalities south of the Iber, where their bills were higher for 3.5 percent.

From 2017 until now the bills have been paid by the System, Transmission and Electricity Market Operator in Kosovo (KOSTT), respectively the Government of Kosovo.

Recently, EU countries have agreed to extend the mandate of the EU Special Envoy for Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Lajcak, for another 18 months.
