Deputies of the European Parliament have today approved the resolution calling for the first time on Kosovo and Serbia to reach an agreement on the normalization of relations based on mutual recognition.
The alignment of Serbia with the foreign policy of the European Union (EU) in the resolution that was approved today is set as one of the conditions for Serbia’s further progress on the path of European integration.
The report of the rapporteur for Serbia Vladimir Bilčik on Serbia was supported by 523 members of the European Parliament, 78 were against and 34 abstained.
The resolution for Serbia expresses the European Parliament’s support for “Serbia’s future membership in the EU”, but also recalls that a credible perspective of enlargement requires commitment to the necessary reforms and respect for European standards and values, reports Klankosova.tv.
In this year’s report on Serbia, the EP has also included harmonization with sanctions against Russia as a key element that should determine the country’s overall progress on the road to EU membership.
