The EU expects the energy issue between Kosovo and Serbia to be finalized next week

The European Union expects the delegations of Kosovo and Serbia to finalize the energy topic next week.

This is what EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy spokesman Peter Stano told Radio Free Europe.

“The EU expects the parties to close the energy issue next week in Brussels at the level of chief negotiators,” he said in a written statement.

The EU was present at the meeting held last week between the Serbian side and the Electricity Distribution Company (KEDS), in Istanbul, Turkey.

KEDS since 2013 is under the management of the Turkish consortium “Çalik-Limak”. This company has the exclusivity of electricity distribution throughout the territory of Kosovo, manages and maintains field assets.

Earlier this week, Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, warned that they were close to finalizing an agreement with the Serbian side on the energy issue.

He said that this issue will be resolved “by respecting the agreement reached in April 2013”.

The agreement of 2013, reached in the framework of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue mediated by the European Union, provides that in addition to KEDS, in Kosovo to be licensed another company for the distribution of electricity.
