Today, June 10, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will begin his first visit to the Balkans. The first country he will visit is Kosovo, where he will meet with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and together they will have a joint press conference. The Chancellor is also expected to meet with the German contingent of KFOR troops.
Scholz in Kosovo, in addition to meetings with institutional leaders, is expected to visit German troops within KFOR.
The focus of the trip will be the prospect of the Western Balkans joining the EU, as well as Germany’s contribution to improving regional co-operation.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti was in Germany on May 4 for an official visit at the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
This was Prime Minister Kurti’s first meeting with German Chancellor Scholz. In a joint press conference after a meeting between the two leaders without the presence of the media, Scholz stressed that open issues between Kosovo and Serbia should be resolved step by step with the idea of culminating in regional peace and stability.
Scholz, among others, stressed the importance of cooperation and the creation of a common regional market within the Berlin Process.
Today, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will travel to Belgrade, while on Saturday he will visit Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria, as part of his tour of the Western Balkans.
Meanwhile, the Kosovo Police has announced that on the occasion of the visit of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, today there will be temporary interruptions in short time intervals of traffic in some road segments where the escort is expected to pass.
