President Vjosa Osmani will attend the EU Summit, where expectations for visa liberalization have increased significantly recently. In an interview with the Dutch media NRC, Osmani said that she goes without expectations regarding this issue.
“I always go there (EU) with hope, but without much expectation. Let’s hope that it will not be another disappointment” said Osmani, among other things.
The member states of the “Open Balkans” initiative, such as Albania, Northern Macedonia and Serbia, have warned that they may boycott this summit due to the disappointment of not opening negotiations with the Albanian and Macedonian states.
The European Union will hold a summit on the Western Balkans on June 24th in Brussels.
The meeting coincides with the European Council scheduled for June 23rd and 24th, after members of the European Commission agreed to propose that Ukraine be granted EU candidate status.
Such a decision raised the issue of starting negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia. The union was due to open membership talks with northern Macedonia and Albania by the end of 2020. But Bulgaria has blocked the opening of official talks due to a history and language dispute with northern Macedonia.
Also, the issue of visa liberalization of Kosovo has been raised, as it has been confirmed for the second time in four years that it has met all the criteria.
