Mimoza Bejkollari – Dako, founder of the “First Albanian School” in Greece

Born and raised in Tirana, immediately after completing her studies at the History-Philology faculty of the University of Tirana, Albanian Language and Literature branch, Mimoza emigrated to Greece. For more than 20 years, Thessaloniki became the second city for him, after Tirana. He completed his post-graduate studies at the Pedagogical Faculty of the “Aristotelio” University in the city of Thessaloniki.

Since 1998, she actively participated in the organization of the Albanian community there, being one of the founders of the association “Albanians of Thessaloniki” as well as its president for many years.

Mimoza Dako is the initiator and founder of the “First Albanian Teacher” in all of Greece, which started its journey on March 7, 2001 in the city of Thessaloniki, in the Hearth of Emigrants of this city. This historic event was also covered by the media of that time, VATS dedicated a special documentary entitled “Roots of identity”.

Dako is one of the founders of the Pedagogical Council of Albanian teachers in Greece, which became the origin of the League of Albanian Teachers in Greece. She represented the Albanian immigrant teachers for the first time at the Congress of Greek teachers, from where she received special support in the supplementary learning of the Albanian language for Albanian children.

Mimoza has a special contribution in the organization of activities of Albanian immigrants with a cultural and patriotic character, where it is worth mentioning the two literary contests in 2000-2001 which were organized for the first time in the history of Albanian immigration in Greece. The realization of these competitions paved the way for the creation of the “Drita” club in Athens and Thessaloniki. Ms. Dako was one of the initiators and vice-president of the “Drita” club in Thessaloniki.

In addition to teaching, Mimoza also had a passion for journalism, she was the director of the editorial office of the first Albanian newspaper published in Thessaloniki, in the “Paratiritis” publishing house, as well as the host of the Albanian-language show “Far from Homeland” on Radio “Paratiritis”.
