Kosovo was visited for the first time by a president from the Baltic state of Latvia. Eglis Levits was welcomed by President Vjosa Osmani, who at a joint press conference asked Latvia for support for NATO membership, as a member of the Alliance.
Levits said that his country supports Kosovo not only in NATO membership, but in all international organizations, saying that Kosovo, as a democratic state, belongs to Europe.
The Latvian president, contrary to the EU position that presents the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue as the only way for Kosovo to integrate, said that if this process stalls, the integration process should not be stalled.
“I have seen several different problems regarding the dialogue, I hope that these talks will still progress, but if we do not have great progress, it should not be an obstacle for Kosovo in other directions and reports. “The Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is important, but even if there is no progress, there are other ways how Kosovo can be further integrated into the European framework.”
