The EU’s special envoy for the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, Miroslav Lajcak, believes that the current political calendar presents a unique chance for the process of normalizing relations between Pristina and Belgrade, because as he says, elections are not expected either in Kosovo, Serbia, not even in the EU or USA.
This chance, Lajçak says, has not existed at least in the last ten years.
“Now we have a unique chance in the political calendar, something we haven’t had for at least ten years, and this is due to the fact that until 2024 we have no elections in Serbia, nor in Kosovo, and there is no major electoral process in Europe, not even in the USA”, said Lajcak in an interview for the APA news agency.
We remind you that on August 27, Kosovo and Serbia reached an agreement to waive the issuance of entry-exit documents for the citizens of the two countries, an agreement that began to be implemented yesterday.
This agreement was reached at the end of last week with the mediation of the EU and also with the involvement of the special envoy for the Western Balkans of the USA, Gabriel Esobar.
This agreement means that the citizens of Serbia and those of Kosovo will be able to cross the border with their identity cards, without the need to be equipped with an additional entry-exit document.
Yesterday, the decision of the Government of Kosovo on car license plates also entered into force. This decision consists in the re-registration of cars using license plates issued by Serbia.
The period of re-registration of cars with license plates issued by Serbia, which are used in the north of Kosovo (KM, PR, PZ, etc.), started on September 1 and will last until October 31.
