Due to the threats coming from Serbia and Russia, there is an urgent need for the addition of NATO troops in Kosovo, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, stated on Friday in an interview for the German television “Welt”.
Kurti said that the presence of more KFOR troops in Kosovo would help the country to further expand security structures and capacities.
“There are 48 Serbian military bases around Kosovo. Russia and Serbia work closely together on military policy, they undertook a total of 104 maneuvers and activities together in 2021 – some of which involved the Belarusian armed forces. Due to the threat from Serbia and Russia, there is an urgent need to significantly increase the number of NATO soldiers in Kosovo. This would definitely improve our security. It would also help us if more German soldiers participated in NATO’s defense forces. In addition, KFOR troops can help us to further expand our security structures and capacities”, Kurti said when asked if Kosovo needs more KFOR troops.
Kurti has said that border controls for Serbian citizens who want to enter Kosovo and new license plate regulations will be implemented starting September 1.
