Prime Minister Albin Kurti participated in a panel discussion within the “GLOBSEC” forum in Slovakia. Other guests on the panel were EU Envoy Lajcak, Montenegrin President Djukanovic, Macedonian Prime Minister Kovacevski and the British Envoy to the Western Balkans, Stuart Peach.
Kurti said today at the Bratislava Forum that in the process of negotiations with Serbia a legally binding agreement is needed for the normalization of relations.
In his speech, Prime Minister Kurti said that unfortunately Serbia says that it will never recognize Kosovo’s independence and does not admit the crimes it has committed in Kosovo.
“In the process of negotiations with Serbia I have been engaged and constructive, we need a principled dialogue between two equal parties for a legally binding agreement for the normalization of relations based on mutual recognition. Unfortunately, Serbia says that it never recognizes Kosovo, and consequently does not admit to the crimes he committed in Kosovo. To be honest, the second offends us and hurts us more. “19 democratic states of NATO came together to stop the genocide of the Milosevic regime in Kosovo. They had objections in their own countries but acted,” said Kurti.
Speaking about the Open Balkans initiative, Kurti said that Kosovo is open to the Berlin Process.
“However, we are trying very hard in Brussels to reach an agreement when it comes to license plates and electricity in the north, as well as those missing from the recent war. Kosovo is the success story of the freedom-loving people of Kosovo. We are grateful to the western states. “The Western Balkans is open to the EU, NATO, the US, but we do not think we should be open to the powers that be. We support the Berlin Process, which is being supported again by Chancellor Olaf Scholz,” he said.
