The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today paid homage to the “Heroines” memorial in Pristina. From there, Kurti commemorated 20,000 women and girls, but also men and boys, who were raped by Serbian forces during the recent war in Kosovo.
Kurti spoke about the role and contribution of women in all historical processes and beyond. He also expressed gratitude to Vasfije Krasniqi, who encouraged many women to follow her example and testify about Serbia’s crime.
According to him, the government is always close to the victims who survived the war in Kosovo from sexual rape, while it has inquired about the stories because the truth helps everyone.
“The state of the Republic of Kosovo, our Government is always close to the victims who survived the war in Kosovo from sexual rape, and with all our capacity, with our skills, our knowledge, we are trying to come to your aid. On the one hand, to encourage the stories about the genocide in Serbia, because the truth helps us all, both as individuals and as a society, but also on the other hand, it informs the international community that they must not forget a war that has taken place. in our lives, in our generation, right now when many of these macabre images are being repeated in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion and military aggression there “, stressed Kurti.
Kurti added that this is a very big and unfair price paid by the people of Kosovo.
“I fully understand the shame that exists for what happened because of our tradition and culture, but on the other hand with courage, we have to overcome the shame because what happened did not happen because those women and girls had names of apart and no one needs to experience it as something personal or just, individual, because rapes, as well as torture, murder, as well as all kinds of suffering have occurred since we were Albanians and wanted to live free on our land. “This is a very big and unfair price that we have paid and we prove that we love this country precisely by expressing our unconditional solidarity with those who have lost and suffered the most”, continued Kurti.
