Kosovo’s position on the Open Balkans remains unchanged

Share

Kosovo is expected to decline any invitation to the upcoming Open Balkans meeting on June 7th in Ohrid, northern Macedonia.

Although Montenegro is expected to change its stance on this regional initiative, with Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic announcing that it will participate in the Ohrid meeting, Kosovo has not changed its stance.

LVV, the ruling party, remains staunchly opposed to the Open Balkans. This position is shared by the Democratic Party of Kosovo and civil society.

The Open Balkans regional leaders will meet again in Ohrid, Northern Macedonia, early next month. So far, the three countries involved in this initiative have signed a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding.

So far, the agreements signed concern the elimination of border controls between these countries, cooperation in facilitating the import, export, and movement of goods, free access to the labor market, and protection against natural disasters in the Western Balkans.
