The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti said on Tuesday, April 12, that the Kosovo authorities will cooperate with the state of Switzerland to understand more about the claims of the former rapporteur of the Council of Europe, Dick Marty, that the Serbian security structures have planned his assassination.
Marty, a former Swiss senator, investigated alleged crimes by the Kosovo Liberation Army against ethnic minorities and political rivals between January 1998 and December 2000.
Kurti said that the causes, circumstances and other information about the case should be known, because this case is not only about “Dick Marty, but also about Kosovo and the Albanians”.
“The state and the people of Kosovo have always known who Serbia is, but I hope that the Quint (United States, France, Germany, Italy and Britain) in Belgrade, the European Union in general, will raise this issue with the president there and all state bodies, because this is an extraordinary accusation, which goes beyond individual dimensions, it includes an entire state ”.
Kurti said that “the way the Serbian Secret Service operated in Western Europe, both against Albanians and Croats, is world-famous.”
“It seems that they even planned that way for Dick Marty to blame us.”
In a statement to RFE / RL’s Balkan Service, the Serbian intelligence agency BIA said it had sent a letter to the Swiss Federal Intelligence Service denying allegations that Serbian security services were involved in “planning the assassination”. of someone ”.
“The BIA strongly condemns and denies malicious allegations of the involvement of Serbian security services in planning the murder of someone. “In these difficult times, such claims unjustly cause incalculable damage to the Republic of Serbia and the reputation of the BIA and its members, who perform their duties with dedication and professionalism,” the statement said.
In an interview with the Swiss media “RTS”, on April 10, Marty said that he has been under high police protection for 16 months, due to life threats, which, as he said, come from certain circles. of the Serbian secret services ”.
He accused the Swiss authorities of “not taking any steps or diplomatic action with Belgrade” regarding the situation in which he found himself.
Marty said that on December 18, 2020, he received a call from the police, who informed him that he was in danger and that he would be placed under high police protection.
He said that he was offered the change of identity and address, but he did not accept.
In that interview, Marty said that the death threats “came from certain circles of Serbian intelligence”, which, according to him, “asked the assassins paid from the underground to liquidate him”, to then blame them. “Albanians from Kosovo”.
However, Marty has not provided any evidence for these claims.
“I am grateful to the people who offer me protection, but it is clear that this can not go on indefinitely. It’s not just about me. “All those who seek the truth deserve not only protection but also justice,” Marty said in an interview.
Marty co-authored a 2010 report with the Council of Europe condemning alleged KLA crimes, including “trafficking in human organs”.
The report was practically verified with a new report by the American prosecutor, Clint Williamson, in 2014. The following year, in 2015, the Special Court in The Hague for war crimes in Kosovo was established.
