About 300 members of the Indiana National Guard will come to Kosovo in a nine-month mission with a focus on guaranteeing security for Kosovars.
According to “The Times”, it is about a combat team belonging to the infantry brigade, which left on Saturday from the USA and first stopped in Germany, before continuing to Kosovo.
When the troops land in Kosovo, the soldiers of the task force will lead the Regional Command-East under the authority of NATO.
“The men and women of this brigade will work to ensure that the independence and sovereignty of Kosovo will remain strong, and that our common goal of independent, multi-ethnic states with societies that coexist in peace in the Western Balkans is realized,” said Maj. Gen. Dale Lyles.
“Sending our troops demonstrates America’s determination to protect the sovereignty of free and democratic nations such as Kosovo,” he added.
This is the 31st rotation of US military forces being deployed to the base at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo.
Troops from Poland, Switzerland, Latvia, Turkey, Slovenia, Greece, Hungary and Italy have also served in the Regional Command – East in Kosovo since the end of the war.
Currently, 635 US troops serve in the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.
