European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi will visit Albania on April 28. In Tirana, Varhelyi will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The visit comes before EU countries make a decision in June to sit down at the first intergovernmental roundtable of Albania and northern Macedonia with the EU.
Varhelyi’s visit to Tirana comes after a series of meetings that the senior EU official will hold in the Western Balkans. Varhelyi will hold meetings in Croatia, Bulgaria and northern Macedonia, according to a European Commission statement.
In his previous statements, Prime Minister Rama stated that if Bulgaria does not lift its veto on Northern Macedonia, Albania will change its approach to opening negotiations.
