Share

The American envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said on Friday that the purpose of his visit to Kosovo and Serbia this week is to support the efforts of the European Union in finding a solution between Kosovo and Serbia for Serbian car plates and documents. .

He made these statements at a press conference at the American Embassy in Belgrade.

Escobar has said he wants both sides to pledge that there will be no violence.

“The dialogue is not clinically dead, I am not part of the dialogue, the United States is not part of the dialogue, but we support the dialogue mediated by the European Union. I hope that by the end of the month we will find a way to continue. At the same time, the dialogue will continue. All agreements will have to be implemented, including the formation of the Association”, he said.

“We have told the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia that we expect the issue of the implementation of all existing agreements to be on the agenda of the next meeting, we do not expect an agreement to be reached then, but of course we expect it to be on the agenda.”

Escobar and the envoy of the European Union for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, visited Kosovo and Serbia this week, with the aim of avoiding tensions between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian President, Vucic, met on August 18 in Brussels, but the meeting did not have any concrete results.

Their meetings were held after the tension of the situation in the north of Kosovo on July 31, as the local Serbs have put up barricades as a sign of dissatisfaction with the step of the Government of Kosovo to implement decisions on Serbian license plates and documents.
