The US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, and the EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, said that the meetings they are holding in Pristina are to prevent the escalation of the situation on September 1.
After the meeting with the institutional leaders of Kosovo, Escobar said that he expects that Kosovo and Serbia will have a concrete proposal for solving the issue of Serbian license plates and documents.
“Both sides have assured us that they do not want escalation and violence on September 1. Now we are here to make sure that this expressed will and all the optimism is translated into a concrete proposal”, said Escobar to the media, after the meetings he held at the Presidency and the Prime Minister of Kosovo.
Escobar reiterated that he supports the dialogue mediated by the EU, but also Kosovo and Serbia to find solutions, as he said, “for these difficult issues”.
“The details of how to move forward belong to the dialogue, but I wanted to make sure that people understand that my vision is to show full support for the EU-mediated dialogue,” Escobar said.
