US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried has stated that Kosovo will take its rightful place in the international arena by reaching a comprehensive agreement with Serbia, which focuses on mutual recognition.

She made these statements in a joint conference with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, during her visit to Kosovo on Monday. The American diplomat also recalled the commitment of the former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, to Kosovo.

“Secretary Albright was very committed to Kosovo for its future. Although won with much effort, the peace and progress of Kosovo should not be taken for granted. We all have to fight every day to meet the needs of its citizens. “This means the commitment for Kosovo to take its rightful place in the international arena, including the normalized relations with Serbia, which focus on mutual recognition,” said Donfried.

She went on to say that the United States is proud that Kosovo can now be referred to as its ally.

“The United States is proud to be able to call Kosovo their partner,” Donfried added.
