The First Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi and the director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovi do will meet next week in Brussels.
The two chief negotiators for the dialogue are expected to discuss the new license plate deal a few days before the October agreement expires. The opposition says that a lot of time has been lost for a technical agreement which is not reached, while in civil society they say that it is the right momentum to reach a new agreement.
Next week’s meeting was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Government of Kosovo, Përparim Kryeziu.
He said that the Kosovar side is ready for high-level political meetings, but the same must be agreed in advance, with a clear agenda and substantive topics.
“Meetings are convened and organized by the mediator of this process. They should however be agreed in advance, with a clear agenda and substantive topics. We have consistently shown readiness for such meetings. “As for the meeting at the level of chief negotiators, Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi and Petkovic are expected to meet next week,” said Kryeziu.
So far, several rounds of negotiations have been held between Kosovo and Serbia expert groups on license plates, but no final solution has been found yet. In October last year, Kosovo and Serbia reached a six-month interim agreement to put stickers on car license plates.
