Albania seeks to become an attractive destination for digital nomads.
The latter are individuals mainly engaged in an online job, which allows them to perform it from any country in the world and their stay is not long-term from one country to another.
In a document already approved by the government, such as the cross-cutting strategy “Digital Agenda of Albania” and the action plan 2022 – 2026, one point related to digital nomads stands out.
“Expanding the digital and physical network and empowering businesses is a priority nowadays for our country, because entrepreneurs, business owners and independent professionals from all over the world have a lot to offer and we hope to simplify the process to ‘joining the e-residence (e-residence) will encourage more of them to choose us to help grow their companies,’ the strategy states.
The same document underlines that the residency project can be an important step for attracting digital nomads in our country along with many other opportunities that the country offers such as online visa application, paid visa and issued online, e- albania, website for tourism, transport system, digital hubs and cooperation spaces, internet connection and speed on the phone, telephone cost, presence of social media, 5G coming soon, etc.
“The lifestyle of the digital nomad has to do with the freedom to choose his lifestyle and location. The Internet has provided a way for us to provide online services and be independent of location. Creating a company as a digital nomad is a very challenging start – creating and running a company with the help of the best opportunity a company can achieve to be completely independent of location. Cases of use in different countries show that digital nomads often prefer settlements outside urban areas.
In these cases, one of the biggest issues they face is the internet connection, as they are looking for fast and reliable internet to run their businesses. Also another problem for them is the provision of reliable health care services. “Here, the essence is to use remote healthcare solutions (on which the EU is focusing a lot),” the strategy states.
The lifestyle as a digital nomad was especially pronounced during the pandemic when a good chunk of jobs were moved online. The imposition of harsh restrictions led many of those who had such a job to choose destinations where the restrictions were less severe. In the region, Croatia and Greece are two of the most popular destinations for digital nomads.
