The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its “high” risk category for travel to five countries and suspended its Covid-19 program for cruise ships.
The agency said on its website that it will continue to publish guidelines for cruise ships, but its voluntary cruise ship monitoring program ended on Monday.
In its special list of Covid-19 travel notices, the South American countries of Colombia and Paraguay moved into the “high” risk level 3 category, along with Iraq in the Middle East and Kosovo and North Macedonia in the Balkans.
Level 3 became the highest risk level in April after the CDC revised its rating system for assessing the risk of Covid-19 for travelers.
The designation applies to countries that have had more than 100 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days. Level 2 and Level 1 are considered “moderate” and “low” risk respectively.
Kosovo moved up two ranks this week from Tier 1. The other four were previously ranked as Tier 2.
