The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Monday released a list of those sanctioned for corruption, which includes seven people from the Western Balkans.
From Albania, in the list of the Treasury Department are: Aqif Rakipi and Ylli Ndroqi.
“Aqif Rakipi is a notorious former MP from Elbasan, who has a harmful and destabilizing influence on the political processes in Albania”, it is said in the decision of the Treasury Department.
It is said about Ylli Ndroqi that “he is a media owner, whose assets were seized by the Government of Albania in 2020 and 2021, for previous criminal activities”.
The list of the Treasury Department also includes the former Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski, and the former head of the Security and Counterintelligence Directorate in this country, Sasho Mijalkov.
From Bosnia and Herzegovina are: former deputy leader of the Party for Democratic Action (SDA), Asim Sarajlic, and former chief prosecutor Gordana Tadic.
Svetozar Marovic, a former senior official with the Democratic Party of Socialists in Montenegro, is also on the US Treasury Department’s sanctions list.
Gruevski, Mijalkov and Tadic are also on the US State Department sanctions list.
