U.S. Soldier Reunites with Beloved Dog Rescued in Kosovo

Share

Just in time for the holidays, U.S. Army Specialist Landon Gnade experienced an emotional reunion with Lepo, a dog he rescued during his deployment in Kosovo. The heartfelt story has captured the attention of many, showcasing the unbreakable bond between a soldier and his furry companion.

While stationed in Kosovo on a nine-month mission, Gnade discovered Lepo wandering near his camp. Despite not initially planning to care for a pet, Gnade couldn’t resist Lepo’s charm. “I was shocked by how this dog came to me, and I decided he would never leave my side” he said. Over time, the pair developed a deep connection, with Gnade even covering medical expenses to ensure Lepo’s health.

When Gnade’s deployment ended in October, he was heartbroken at the thought of leaving Lepo behind. That’s when “Paws of War” a non-profit organization dedicated to reuniting military personnel with animals rescued overseas, stepped in. The organization worked tirelessly for two months, securing Lepo’s passport and arranging his transport to Georgia.

“Trauma of leaving a beloved pet behind is a sacrifice we don’t want soldiers to endure” said Gary Baumann of Paws of War.

Now back home in Atlanta, Gnade is overjoyed to have Lepo by his side. “I’m so lucky. I can’t tell you how happy I am to have him here,” he shared, describing Lepo as his constant source of comfort.

For Gnade, Lepo’s companionship has been instrumental in easing the challenges of readjusting to civilian life. “It’s comforting. I’m not going through this alone; he’s right here with me” Gnade concluded.
