300 million euros more imports from Serbia to Kosovo than in 2019

Ramush Haradinaj during his time as Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo had imposed a 100% tax on Serbian products. This had led to a drastic decline in Kosovo’s imports from Serbia. According to statistics based on data from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics in 2019, Kosovo had imported from Serbia only 6 million euros.

After the departure of Ramush Haradinaj from the position of Prime Minister, the leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, came to head the Kosovo executive, who decided to abolish the tax after great international pressure and promised that it would be replaced by the measure of reciprocity.

However, such a measure of reciprocity was never imposed, even though Prime Minister Albin Kurti, a few days before coming to the post of Prime Minister for the second time, had said that it would be a matter of days and weeks and never months.

“It is a matter of days, weeks and by no means months. “I do not know now what the sequence will be, but it is one of the first things we will do”, Kurti had said in 2021.

Meanwhile, from 2019 to 2021, Kosovo’s imports from Serbia have increased by 300 million euros. According to the data of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, from 6 million in 2019, it has gone to 306 million in 2021.

LVV as an opposition party had organized actions in Merdare, where it had turned the trucks with Serbian goods coming to Kosovo. They even organized the “Love Yours” campaign in order to promote local products.
