Prishtina is getting ready to host the biggest event dedicated to art in public spaces, the Manifesta biennial.

77 participants from 32 countries of the world will take part in the 14th edition, which this time has the central theme of restoring public spaces to citizens.

“I am very excited that the Manifesta biennial will be held in Pristina. Although it will take two months to start, we can already feel the energy that prevails in the city. Everywhere I go people know and are waiting for him. “Many are even thinking about how they can open their shops, gardens and facilities and welcome people inside who can evolve their spaces,” said Catherine Nichols, Curator of the Biennale.

“The energy of the Manifesto has started in 2019 when the news came out that Prishtina will be the host of this nomadic biennial. “Work has also started in different places where the Manifesto will take place and almost everything is about the Manifesto in Prishtina”, said Dardan Hoti, Media Relations.

Abandoned places, or spaces that were once the most important for the social life of the past, have been chosen. They will return once again to people through visual art, installations or video installations.

“I think people should wait for the transformation of the city. many citizens who know Prishtina will see a city that is changing its face. what is happening is that many spaces that have been abandoned, or others that have had history and potential will be revisited with artistic interventions or ecological transformations “, said Catherine Nichols.

“The concept has been created, all the places that have been forgotten in some form have been selected, especially such as the Grand Hotel, or the former Hysni Sulejmani library that has been closed since 2016 and has not been closed after any function. However, the manifesto has tried to keep these places even after 100 days that the manifesto will be closed “, said Dardan Hoti.

Genti Korini is one of the Albanian artists who will participate in the biennial in Prishtina. He has chosen to restore the communist past and the relationship with modernity.

This biennial also serves as a bridge of communication between artists from different countries.

The Manifesta Biennial will open on July 22 and will be open until October 30 in Prishtina. This important artistic event started in 1996 in Rotterdam, to move to Luxembourg, Palermo, Marseille, St. Petersburg, to stop for the first time in the Balkans and specifically in Pristina.
