The summer tourist season also brought an influx of visitors to Rozafa Castle in Shkoder, surpassing last year’s numbers.
The Shkoder Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage announced that “during the May-September period, the number of visitors reached 60,597, 82% more visitors than in the same period of 2021 or 33,302 visitors”.
During this 5-month tourist season, infrastructure has been improved by 60% compared to 2021, 8% more visitors served per day compared to 2021, 50 visitors served per hour, 82% more visitors than in 2021 and 52% more income than in 2021″, emphasized DRTK Shkoder.
According to DRTK Shkoder, the results were achieved thanks to the good management and significant improvement of the infrastructure of the Rozafa Castle, the renewal of the internal signage of the signs and informative panels of the archaeological site, the addition and placement of new waste bins, the repair of the street lighting system cobblestones to the castle and the full restoration of the lighting on the perimeter walls of the castle, the repair and painting of the railings and cleaning of the vegetation throughout the days increase our responsibility for maintaining this rhythm and continuing with the other challenges in the management of this archaeological park, more visited throughout Albania.
Rozafa Castle is a historical monument. In the surrounding walls of the castle, which cover about 9 hectares of land, the constructions of four periods can be clearly distinguished: the Balshaj (XIV century), the Venetian possession (XV century), the Ottoman occupation (XVI-XVII century), and the Bushatllinj ( XVIII-XIX centuries). Built during the Illyrian kingdom, it is represented by a legend that shows the keeping of a promise, of the legendary faith.
