On the occasion of the United States’ Independence Day, a new book titled “United States of America and Albania – 1914-1961: State Department Papers” has been introduced. This comprehensive compilation of historical documents sheds light on the diplomatic relations between the two countries during a significant time span.
Authored by renowned scholar Bejtullah Destani, the book presents original records from the US State Department archives, covering topics related to Albania, the Balkans, and Europe that intersect with Albanian interests. Despite facing financial challenges, the book was successfully published by “Olymp Publishing House” in Prishtina, in collaboration with the “Centre for Albanian Studies London,” UK.
With its valuable insights, the book offers a new perspective for researchers studying the US government’s policies towards Albania over the years, including crucial periods such as Albania’s independence, World War I, World War II, and subsequent global developments. It provides a comprehensive overview of historical events, documenting the intricate dynamics between the two nations and their significance within the broader international context.
By delving into the archival documents, readers can explore the role of President Woodrow Wilson during the Paris Peace Conference of 1919-1920 and the challenges faced in securing Albania’s independence. Additionally, the book highlights the recognition of Albania by the United States in July 1922 and the projection of American economic interests in Albania, particularly in relation to oil, showcasing a dual perspective compared to the United Kingdom’s involvement.
