A grand celebration took place in the Arbëresh community in San Basile on Saturday, May 4th, to commemorate the 619th birthday of the national hero, Gjergj Kastriot Skënderbeu.
The highlight of the event was the inauguration of a statue of Skënderbeu, which was unveiled by the country’s president, Bajram Begaj. Created in Albania as a unique work by the artist, Ardian Pepa, the statue stands approximately six meters tall, making it the largest Skënderbeu monument in Italian territory. President Begaj’s presence added significance to the event, highlighting the strong ties between Albania and the Arbëresh community in Italy.
