The first Albanian school in Albany, New York, “Alba Life,” celebrated its grand opening on January 17, 2025, at Sand Creek Middle School. This marks a significant milestone for the Albanian-American community in the state capital, bringing together families, educators, and students eager to preserve the Albanian language and culture. The ceremony was led by Kozeta Zylo, with contributions from coordinators and teachers, who were warmly welcomed by local school officials.
A vibrant red and black theme adorned the event, with cultural gifts and traditional foods symbolizing Albanian heritage. Attendees included parents, grandparents, and students, some of whom traveled from neighboring areas. The school will operate as part of the Alba Life network, the largest Albanian school system in the diaspora, which has been promoting education and cultural identity for 18 years.
Founder Qemal Zylo, honored with the title “Knight of the Order of the Flag” by Albania’s Presidency, highlighted the importance of education in maintaining cultural roots. He expressed gratitude to the staff, community leaders, and supporters who made the school’s opening possible, emphasizing that this initiative fulfills a long-held dream for the Albanian-American community in Albany.
