On Sunday, April 6, 2025, Shoqata Labëria Boston, invited by the Albanian Language Studies Department at Harvard University, organized the cultural conference “Labëria: Voice of Timeless Traditions” at Boylston Hall. The event focused on the heritage of the Labëria region and drew a large audience from across the U.S., Canada, and Albania.
The program included discussions on the Kanun of Labëria, traditional Albanian polyphonic songs recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, and exhibitions of traditional Labërian clothing. Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Faton Limani from the Albanian Studies Department. Ms. Rudina Bardhi presented the mission of Shoqata Labëria Boston.
Poet and publicist Kozeta Zylo spoke about isopolyphony, followed by performances from Grupi Lab Boston. Prof. As. Dr. Zaho Golemi presented a video montage on the Kanun of Labëria. Dance groups Albanian Roots (NY) and Vallet Tona (Worcester) performed traditional dances, and artist Edlira Sulaj showcased a costume exhibition. A surprise painting inspired by the Kanun was unveiled by artist Ndriçim Bejko.
The conference concluded with the audience joining in singing “Labëri Monëdhe e Shtrenjtë.” Moderator Greta Barjami led the event.
Representatives from various Albanian organizations participated, and attendees traveled from Tirana, Montreal, Philadelphia, New York, Connecticut, Michigan, Florida, Las Vegas, New Hampshire, Boston, and Worcester.
