A street in Staten Island is named “Ismail Qemali”

In a momentous ceremony in Staten Island, New York, Albanians gathered to honor Ismail Qemali, the Father of Albanian Independence, by naming a road after him. The event was organized by a dedicated group led by Naser Nika and Dr. Bari Ceka, supported by New York City Council Member David Carr.

The ceremony featured an artistic program led by Qemal Zylo, with journalist Kozeta Turishta and artist Bledar Maqellara as hosts. Imam Tahir Kukaj delivered a blessed invocation, and greetings were extended by Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj, the World Chief of the Bektashi sect.

The Albanian and American national anthems were performed by soprano Dëshira Ahmeti Kerliu and student Dea Kërliu, accompanied by a procession of the New York Police Department and the American Albanian Law Enforcement Association.

Qamil Vlora, the nephew of Ismail Qemali, attended the event, adding special significance. Greetings were also given by the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Washington, the advisor to the State of New York, the Mayor of Pristina, and the President of Staten Island.

Representatives from Vatra and the Sons of the Eagle Association expressed their support. The ceremony concluded with gratitude expressed by David Carr, acknowledging the mayors of Malishevë and Skënderaj municipalities for their contributions.
