He was born and raised in the United States of America, but Tom Ivezaj had his heart set on his hometown. And this became exactly the reason why he decided to return to Tuz in order to contribute to the maximum for the Albanians.
However, during the time he lived in America, Ivezaj completed his studies as a criminalist, while he also worked as a member of the police. There was also an engagement in a bank as ‘underwriting’.
“I graduated from college with a degree in criminology, and I served as a police officer in the Detroit area for about two years. Then I worked for a large bank doing the work ‘Underwriting'”, says Ivezaj for Atlantiku.
However, while he was working and acting in Michigan, Ivezaj says that he longed for his hometown.
But how did he make the decision to return to his homeland?
“I have returned to Albania because during my life I have longed for my country. I have read about our countries, I have visited the homeland and I have managed to do some charitable initiatives for our people. But, finally I decided to come to live here to give my best for Albania. To live and contribute here, not from far away”, he says.
According to Ivezaj, it is difficult to preserve culture in America, especially recently.
But, he says that such a thing was possible through the initiatives of the Albanian-American community.
“The Albanian-American community has been and is still very strong. We have several associations in New York, Boston, Detroit and California that work for the good of our country. During the 80s, compatriots from all parts of Albania united and worked on the issue of Kosovo,” says Ivezaj for Atlantiku.
Ivezaj summarizes his desire to return to his homeland with this sentence:
“I live in an Albanian area in Montenegro, where nearly 80 percent of the population has moved to America. However, we have a strong diaspora, my soul asks me to live in the Highlands, and to make my contribution here. So that we don’t become weak in this sacred area.”
