Ilir Sela, the founder of Slice, has become a successful entrepreneur by creating a mobile application that has empowered small restaurant and pizzeria owners across America. Sela’s story is one of hard work, perseverance, and a desire to use technology to help small businesses thrive.
Born in Dibra, North Macedonia, Sela immigrated to America with his family when he was just ten years old. His family’s strong work ethic and experience in the service industry gave him the drive to create the Slice app.
“Many members of my family own small pizzerias, so I saw firsthand their difficulties when technology became an important element for success, and I thought I would help,” said Sela.
The Slice app has enabled nearly 50,000 small restaurants in more than 3,000 US cities to offer their products to a wider audience and compete with larger businesses like Domino’s and Pizza Hut. Sela saw that small business pizzerias operated like a community, but without the support and technology that larger businesses enjoyed. The Slice app has brought local pizzerias together and provided them with the tools and technology to bridge this gap.
Sela’s success has not only impacted small business owners in America but has also created job opportunities for young professionals in North Macedonia. Since 2011, Slice has employed over 600 young professionals to help with data entry, customer service, sales, and engineering aspects.
As the COVID pandemic affected many small pizzerias in America, Slice stepped up to stand by these businesses and the communities they serve. The company raised $600,000 in funds to provide free meals to healthcare workers and law enforcement across the country.
Sela is now looking to expand Slice globally, including in Brazil, and has already opened an office in North Macedonia. He has a message for Albanian Americans who are trying to be successful in the States: “Believe in yourself, and never give up. Opportunities will come, but it’s important to be persistent and work hard to achieve your goals.”
Sela’s story is a testament to the power of hard work, perseverance, and using technology to empower small businesses. His success with Slice has not only changed the game for small pizzerias in America but has also created job opportunities for young professionals in his hometown of Dibra, North Macedonia.
In his own words, “Talents have no limits,” and Sela’s story is a testament to that statement. He has used his talent and passion for technology to create a platform that has helped thousands of small businesses and is now looking to expand his impact around the world.
