The Assembly of Kosovo votes in principle on the draft law on increasing the minimum wage

According to the draft law voted by the majority of deputies, the minimum wage will be 264 euros.

The deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo, with 68 votes in favor, none against and six abstentions, voted in the first reading in favor of raising the minimum wage in Kosovo, reports Anadolu Agency (AA).

According to the draft law voted by the majority of the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo, the minimum wage will be 264 euros, while currently it is 130 and 170 euros.

For workers under 35 who have had a minimum wage of 130 euros, the minimum wage will be increased by 103 percent, while for workers under 65 who have so far been paid a minimum of 170 euros, the minimum wage will be increased their will increase by 55 percent.

In Kosovo, the minimum wage has not increased for 11 years now.

Before the voting of the draft law, the chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Besnik Tahiri, demanded that this law be withdrawn and returned to the Government, while the Speaker Glauk Konjufca stated that the draft law should be put to a vote because “This point was consumed last week.”

On June 6, the Assembly of Kosovo did not have a quorum for decision-making regarding the voting of the draft law in question, while at the same time in the court of the Assembly of Kosovo against this draft law, which excludes the categories that emerged from the war from raising the minimum wage. , members of the KLA War Veterans Organization protested.

Today, the Kosovo Police is on standby in case of organizing a protest by OVL-KLA veterans.

The acting chairman of the OVL-KLA, Faton Klinaku, said that if the draft law on raising the minimum wage is voted without their involvement, the OVL-KLA will protest.

Regarding this request of OVL-KLA, the Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, said that the article that connects the minimum wage with the veterans’ pension has been deleted from the Law on Minimum Wage since 2017.

Murati said that 80 million euros a year are paid for veterans, while he demanded that initially there be a cleansing of veterans’ lists, in order to treat fairly those who “really fought”.
