A local councilor of the European Union, Kati Schneeberger has launched a petition for visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo, which was also supported by the former rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Ulrike Lunacek.
The petition launched on change.org, signed so far by 33 people, aims to convince skeptical EU states on visa liberalization for Kosovo citizens as soon as possible.
“Despite Kosovo testifying to the fulfillment of all conditions, visa liberalization continues to be opposed by two EU members – France and the Netherlands. Visa liberalization for all other Balkan countries as well as for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia has been realized for several years. It is time for the citizens of Kosovo to have the opportunity to enter the EU without the need to apply for a visa. Meanwhile, visa-free entry is possible for all EU citizens in Kosovo. This unequal treatment must end. The citizens of Kosovo should no longer be isolated. Therefore, we call for a decision on visa liberalization for Kosovo at the next EU summit, in June 2022 “, it is said in the justification of the initiative.
Meanwhile, the former Vice President of the European Parliament, Lunacek, has called Schneerberger’s initiative important.
