State Department: Kosovo has the right to set its own foreign policy priorities

Share

Kosovo yesterday officially applied for membership in the Council of Europe. Serbia and Serbian President Vucic have reacted to such an action by Kosovo institutions, claiming that Kosovo has violated the Washington Agreement.

The US State Department spoke about this, saying that Kosovo and Serbia are sovereign states that have the right to decide on their foreign policy priorities.

“Kosovo and Serbia are sovereign countries with the right to set their own foreign policy priorities. The moratorium was created to expand the space for discussion and compromise between Kosovo and Serbia, which we believe is in the strategic interests of both countries. We believe that the EU-mediated Dialogue for the normalization of their relations is essential for both countries to unlock their European future and to promote their urgent, flexible and serious engagement in that process “, said the State Department.
