On Wednesday, May 4, the procedures for the election of the new president of Albania officially begin. At 12:30, the Conference of Presidents will discuss and set the date of the first round of voting for the election of the new head of state.
The Socialist Party has proposed May 10 for a special session, while the Democratic Party has not yet stated a date.
If in the first round none of the candidates will receive 84 votes, then no later than 7 days follows the second round, which requires as many votes as the first.
The parties have the opportunity to vote for a consensual name until the 3rd round, otherwise the majority can choose it alone with 71 votes in the 4th and 5th round.
The entire procedure for electing a new president is expected to be completed within this month.
So far none of the parliamentary groups has publicly supported a particular candidate. The only procedure that has been carried out is that within the socialist parliamentary group, where each of the deputies has proposed 3 names which have not been made public, reports Euronews Albania, reports Klankosova.tv.
