At the invitation of the Speaker of the Assembly of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi is staying in Ukraine where he arrived by train through Poland in the early hours of the morning.

The Speakers of the Romanian Parliament and the Swiss Confederation are also paying a visit to Ukraine.

President Xhaferi visited the town of Irpin and the Hostomel runway, which are devastated by the hostilities, after which he and other parliament speakers issued a joint statement.

“Anyway, for me it is a special pleasure and I accepted the invitation to personally visit Buca and Irpin to personally see the consequences of what is the occupation of the Russian Federation over Ukraine. Of course, my presence is a symbol of personal, institutional support and support of the citizens of the Republic of Northern Macedonia for the people of Ukraine and the institutions of Ukraine. We in the Western Balkans have fresh memories from such images we saw no more than two decades ago, we have fresh Recak in Kosovo, fresh is Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina and anyway I think we understand you and we know best what these images we see here will say “, said Xhaferi.

He stressed that I will personally commit myself to the institutions and citizens of the Republic of Northern Macedonia to offer all possible support that is available together with our partners from the European Union and the international community.

“Anyway, I will personally vow that these images will be named after them, and this is genocide and nothing else,” Xhaferi added.

This visit of President Xhaferi is the first of its kind of high representative from the region and the first visit of all levels of government in the Republic of Northern Macedonia. During the visit, President Xhaferi will also address the Congress of Local and Regional Councils chaired by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
