Albania Named One of the World’s Top Solo Travel Destinations

Share

Albania has been ranked the second-best international destination in the world for solo travelers, according to Travel + Leisure’s 2026 list of the 25 best countries for traveling alone.

Only Thailand ranked higher, placing Albania ahead of destinations including Costa Rica, Germany, Vietnam, Iceland and New Zealand.

Travel + Leisure described Albania as an “up-and-coming destination” for solo travelers, pointing to the country’s hospitality and diverse landscapes as major attractions.

The publication highlighted the Blue Eye near Sarandë, known for its exceptionally clear blue water, as well as Albania’s coastline around Himarë, Dhërmi and Ksamil. It also singled out Shëngjin in northern Albania as another option for travelers looking for beaches.

Beyond the coast, the ranking draws attention to Albania’s historic cities. Travel + Leisure recommends visiting Berat, known as the “town of a thousand windows,” as well as Gjirokastër, with both cities recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The publication also points to Albania’s Benja Thermal Baths near Përmet as an attraction during the cooler months.

Albania’s No. 2 position places the country alongside some of the world’s most established solo-travel destinations, while also reflecting its growing reputation as a European destination for independent travelers.

For travelers looking for a combination of beaches, mountains, historic towns and relatively easy access to different parts of the country, Albania is increasingly becoming a destination that does not require a travel companion.
