Plans have been submitted to build a new 13-storey Albanian mosque and community centre in Queen’s Park, north-west London, replacing the current UK Albanian Muslim Community and Cultural Centre, which operates from a former Irish pub on Carlton Vale.

The proposed development would become one of the tallest religious buildings in the area. According to the planning application, the complex would include three floors dedicated to prayer halls, classrooms, a café, a restaurant, community spaces, charity facilities, offices, a function hall and a morgue.

The upper floors of the building are planned for commercial office space, while the lower levels would serve the religious and community functions of the centre.

The proposal has sparked debate among local residents. Supporters say the growing Albanian Muslim community deserves a modern purpose-built facility, while opponents argue the 13-storey building would be out of character with the surrounding neighbourhood and could increase traffic, parking pressures and congestion.

Some residents have also pointed out that there are already around 15 mosques within a three-mile radius of the proposed site.

The planning application is currently being assessed by Brent Council. No final decision has been made on whether the project will receive approval.
