Albanian-American Republican candidate Robert Lulgjuraj has suspended his campaign for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, ending his bid less than three weeks before the Republican primary on August 4.
Lulgjuraj, a Macomb County prosecutor, announced the decision in a video posted on X, saying President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Republican rival Mike Bouchard left him without a realistic path to victory.
“I just don’t see a true path to victory given that this is no longer a fair fight,” Lulgjuraj said, adding that while many supporters wanted him to remain in the race, he believed the decision had to be made based on logic rather than emotion.
Throughout his campaign, Lulgjuraj highlighted his Albanian heritage and received support from Albanian-American communities across the United States.
Despite suspending his campaign, Lulgjuraj said he plans to run for public office again in the future.
His withdrawal leaves Mike Bouchard, Justin Kirk and Steffan Demetropoulos competing for the Republican nomination. The winner will face the Democratic nominee in November to replace Congressman John James, who is running for governor of Michigan.
