An Albanian immigrant in the United Kingdom has sparked major controversy after winning an appeal that stopped his deportation — with part of the case centering on his child’s sensitivity to food.
Klevis Disha, 39, had previously been sentenced to two years in prison after authorities found him in possession of over £250,000 (around $335,000) in cash linked to criminal activity. Following his conviction, UK authorities moved to deport him and revoke his status.
However, Disha appealed the decision, arguing that his removal would have serious consequences for his young son.
During the proceedings, the court examined the child’s condition, hearing that he has developmental and sensory difficulties, struggles with communication, and follows a very limited diet. Among the details highlighted was that the boy refuses to eat certain foods outside the UK — including what were described as “foreign” versions of familiar items like chicken nuggets.
The court ultimately ruled in Disha’s favor, concluding that deporting him would be “unduly harsh” on the child. Judges also noted that the boy does not speak or understand Albanian and has lived his entire life in the UK.
