On October 14, 2014, during a football match between Serbia and Albania in Belgrade, a drone carrying the Autochthonous Albanian flag flew over the stadium. The flag depicted a map of Greater Albania, including Kosovo and parts of neighboring countries. The drone’s appearance halted the match in the 41st minute, causing tensions between players and fans to escalate.
The Serbian crowd reacted by storming the field, leading to a physical altercation between Serbian and Albanian players. Serbian authorities attempted to bring the situation under control, but the match was eventually abandoned due to security concerns. The incident quickly gained international media attention, highlighting the political sensitivities between Serbia and Albania.
After the initial decision by UEFA to award Serbia a 3-0 victory but deduct three points from them, Albania appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In July 2015, CAS ruled in favor of Albania, overturning the previous decision and awarding Albania a 3-0 victory, along with the three points from the match.
