On the week of the anniversary of Kosovo’s independence, New York City Council Speaker Adrienne E. Adams, City Council members David Carr, Joseph Borelli, and several other elected officials, including former City Councilman and Community leader Mr. Mark Gjonaj, hosted a solemn event to celebrate this momentous occasion.
The event was a testament to the importance of celebrating and honoring the diversity and heritage of the Albanian-American community in New York City. The celebration was attended by Albanian-American associations and community leaders, who came together to celebrate the independence and sovereignty of Kosovo.
The event was also an opportunity to highlight the contributions of the Albanian-American community in New York City and to show solidarity with them as a nation. It is essential that the community has a voice and feels supported by their elected officials, and this event was an excellent way to demonstrate that support.

The proceedings began with a somber and respectful tone as the attendees reflected on the importance of the day. Following this, the guests were entertained by several groups of dancers, as well as the “Barbana Group,” a group made up of children from the “Meso Shqip” school. The performance was stunning, and the two dance teachers, Nadia Hoxha and Hannah Demiri, did an excellent job of showcasing the talent and passion of the young performers.
In a statement, the event’s organizers thanked the elected officials for recognizing the importance of the day and for giving the Albanian-American community a voice. The statement reads, “We would not only like to thank our elected officials for recognizing the independence and sovereignty of Kosova, but for also doing what they can in giving Albanian-Americans a voice and showing solidarity with us as a nation! God Bless You All, and God Bless Kosova.”
