The Museum of Iconography “Onufri” in the Kala district of Berat is one of the main stops for visitors and tourists from all over the world, in every season of the year.

This museum, like many similar institutions not only in Albania but also around the world, is recovering from the consequences of the pandemic.

The head of the sector in this museum, Arjan Prifti, says that finally the visitors are increasing and the numbers are approaching the period before the pandemic.

“During the year, there are over 40,000 visitors, of which 8,800 are online. Mainly Poles come from the east, shallowly we have losses of Ukrainians and Russians. The Belgians, the Dutch, the Germans, the French, etc., operate through tourist agencies. Albanians come on weekends, students and year-end holidays in the first days of January” – says Arjan Prifti, responsible for the sector.

Visitors can book the ticket online while inside the museum they can familiarize themselves with the exhibited works through an audio service in dozens of world languages

The exhibited collection consists of 173 objects, where 106 are icons and 67 are liturgical objects, which belong to Albanian iconographic painters who created in the 14th – 20th centuries such as: Onufri, Nikolla i biri i Onufri, Onufër Cyprioti, David Selenica, Kostandin Shpataraku etc
