The US government and the US Embassy in Pristina sponsor various exchange program opportunities for citizens of Kosovo, including high school students, students, academics, and professionals. These include:
YOUTH EXCHANGE:
Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES)
This program offers full scholarships to Kosovo high school students to spend an academic year in the United States. Students live with American host families and attend American high schools. The YES program is administered in partnership with the US State Department by a consortium of non-profit organizations led by the American Councils on International Education. In Kosovo, American Councils manages the YES program in partnership with the US Embassy in Pristina.
Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Summer Institute, Youth Program
This program offers opportunities for students from Kosovo, aged 16-18, to attend a four-week course at a summer institute in the United States. During this program, students have the opportunity to interact with over 45 other students from more than 30 countries in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Eurasia and the USA. They will explore American culture and politics and learn about the opportunities and challenges of civil society.
STUDENT EXCHANGE:
Fulbright program for foreign students in the United States for citizens of Kosovo
This program brings citizens of Kosovo to the United States for postgraduate (master’s) programs at US universities. Students compete for Fullbright scholarships through the US Embassy in Pristina.
Kosovo Student Exchange Program (Kosovo UGRAD)
This program offers one-semester scholarships to outstanding students from Kosovo for full-time, non-degree study at an American university or professional college. In addition to coursework, students work on community service projects, professional development workshops, and cultural enrichment activities. Students are selected through an open, merit-based competition.
PROFESSIONAL EXCHANGE:
Fulbright program for scholars in the United States for citizens of Kosovo
This program enables citizens of Kosovo to study, research and pursue their academic and professional interests at leading universities and other educational institutions in the USA. Awards (3 – 6 months) are awarded through an open competition and selected candidates are required to appear for an interview by a committee.
Hubert H. Humphrey Scholarship Program
This program brings talented mid-level professionals from Kosovo to the United States for up to one year of combined academic (untitled) and professional work. Candidates are selected based on their potential for leadership and commitment to public service. By providing future leaders and future policymakers with experience from US academic and professional fields, this program provides a foundation for long-term and productive connections between Americans and their professional counterparts abroad.
